The Sanford News was published from late 1911 until May 1917 when it was purchased by the Sanford Tribune. Everett J. Averill, publisher of the Sanford News, is driving. Beside him is the Rev. Herbert F. Moulton, Unitarian pastor from 1912-14. He was affectionately known as "Chuckle Chops". Dora A. Averill, Everett's wife, is seated in the middle in the back. Beside her are their children Annie (Averill) Denby, and Burnham E. Averill who provided Harland Eastman with the identities of the occupants of the car. The owner of the Sanford Tribune at the time it purchased the Sanford News was Fred B. Averill, Everett's brother.
