Charles Quincy Goodhue's sketch shows Tukey's Bridge in Portland at the far left and Back Cove in the foreground. Portland had four rope-making companies, including Hammond's, which occupied the large building in the foreground.

He made the sketches in 1902 from memory of Portland before the fire of 1866.
