"The Portland Company Bulletin No. 8 shows the boilers and machinery being installed in the passenger side-wheeled Bay State. The Bay State was built in 1890 for the Eastern Steamship Company. Note that at this time the great 33-foot diameter paddle wheels have not yet been mounted.
