The Portland Company was the Knox automobile dealership for the area in the early 1900s. This is the Knox Limousine model 'R' 1910. "Knox...built large limousines, such as this 1911-1912 model. The driver or chauffeur had little protection from the elements as he drove his wealthy owners about in this "R" model. A Knox cost in the range from $3,000 to $5,000, while many other automobiles were being sold for only a few hundred dollars at the time."--Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.'
