Mary Scrimgeour's elegant black suit includes an aquamarine silk lining, visible under the fitted jacket's openwork detailing. A full-length rustling aquamarine silk petticoat is seen through the tailored skirt's openwork along the hemline. The high neck bodice is completely lined with the light blue silk satin. A makers label stamped on the interior reads: "Dunton Robes, Augusta, Me".

Mary King Scrimgeour (1848-1930) moved to Lewiston from Ontario with her husband Charles in 1885. Both inventors, Mary Scrimgeour held a U.S patent for shelf attachments designed for a radiator to warm food or other objects.
