Description
Portland Company-built Maine Central Railroad boxcar, ca. 1890. "This photograph shows a very unusually decorated boxcar No. 1217. It was built for the Maine Central Railroad and decorated with the names of many of the cities that the railroad served. The Portland Company has its name very prominently displayed on the door of this "display or advertising car." - Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.
