Description

Log bunk built for the Somerset Railroad in 1906. These bunks were "turned out by the hundreds for hauling logs from Maine's timbering operations to the sawmills. One bunk was chained under each end of a load of long logs and coupled together with reach poles... The Sandy River Railroad in Phillips, Maine, used to haul logs at night...and passengers during the daytime." - Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.
