Description

This drawing of the new library building at the Maine Historical Society was created by Alexander W. Longfellow, the nephew of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Anne Longfellow Pierce.

Anne Longfellow Pierce gave the Wadsworth-Longfellow House in Portland to the Maine Historical Society. Her gift specified the building of a library to house the collections of the Maine Historical Society. The Research Library is located directly beside the Wadsworth-Longfellow House on Congress Street in Portland.
