Image Info Miles Bracewell (standing in front of steps) sings for the Squirrel Island assembly, July 4, 1918. A notable opera performer with a fine baritone voice, Bracewell had a summer home on Squirrel Island.

The children assembled to the right of the picture are dressed to represent American servicemen and women and their allies in WW1.
The Island Spa was an early social center on the island, noted among other things for its ice cream. Built in 1900/1901 by Albert H. Davenport, it was purchased by the Squirrel Island Ladies' Improvement Association in 1921 and renamed the "Tea Shop."
The building was destroyed by fire in 1965.
