The Carrabassett Mineral Spring Farm provided community residents and early tourists visiting the spring the added attraction of a roadside wild animal park and petting zoo.

Admiral and Maud, the pair of bison pictured, were probably captured in the western plains following a period of severe over hunting and near extermination. Bison would have been viewed as exotic animals in Maine and were already being considered by many as an endangered species.

Photos such as this one were probably printed by the Carrabassett Mineral Springs Farm to be sold to visitors as souvenirs.
