Though the woman in this photograph is unidentified, she is thought to be a girlfriend or wife of Joseph Chouinard, a Lewiston-Auburn resident who served in World War I, posing in his uniform.Show Details
While women did serve in the army during World War I, they did so mostly as nurses, or in reserve units. Few would have been issued with rifles as shown in this photo.
