Pictured is Simon Wing, a St. Albans native, in his seventies.

Wing was born on St. Albans Mountain August 29, 1826. He developed an interest in photography at a young age and in 1846, while still in St. Albans, he and his boyhood friend from the mountain, Isaac Osborn, opened a photographers establishment where they started making daguerreotypes.

In 1861 he moved to Boston and took an office on Washington Street. While here he invented the Wing multiplying camera which became known all over the world. In 1892 he helped organize the Socialist-Labor Party and in the election of that year became the Party's Presidential candidate. He died in Charleston, Massachusetts in December of 1910. He and his family are buried in the Village Cemetery in St. Albans.
