"Belfield," the home of Henry St. John Smith (1852-1896), who attended Harvard University, graduated and passed the bar, but never practiced law.

He instead joined a banking firm, where he was very successful. He was well traveled, having made three trips around the world.

His estates in Cape Elizabeth were compared to those of England, as they were thickly wooded.
