This ambrotype portrait of John and Sarah (Williams) Young of Hallowell, was taken by A. F. Morse. The couple filed a marriage intention in Hallowell in 1864, this may be a wedding photograph. Morse's studio opened in Hallowell 1862.

This was a second marriage for both John and Sarah. Sarah, of Augusta, previously married Thomas Williams in 1852. Her maiden name was also recorded as Williams, the daughter of either James or William Williams. John worked as a laborer in Hallowell, residing in the Slab City neighborhood in 1867. John's father was Ephraim Young, a shoemaker, of Georgia.
