Photo taken from Elm Street in Biddeford looking down Gooch Street during the Spring freshet (melting snows) in April 1885. Gooch Street had a broad array of businesses: grocers, a blacksmith, a cannery, flour and grain warehouses. Gooch Street used to run into Main Street at its eastern end via a bridge that disappeared in the early 20th century. Today Saco Island developers have plans for a pedestrian walkway with a new bridge connecting the split street once again.
