Postcard of the "new" St. Dominic's Church on Gray and State Streets in Portland. The postcard is postmarked 1913 or 1918.

The first St. Dominic's Church was dedicated on August 11, 1833 as the first Catholic Church in Portland. Rev. Charles French said the first Mass in St. Dominic's on the Feast of All Saints in November 1830.

This postcard shows the new Church, completed in 1893. The parish consisted of basically only two large neighborhoods: Gorham's Corner (the intersection of Pleasant, Danforth, York, Center and Fore Streets) where the Irish had settled as early as the 1820s, and Knightville in South Portland. Cape Elizabeth residents also attended.

In 2003, St. Dominic's Church became the home of the Maine Irish Heritage Center.
