The railroad bridge in Skowhegan was built in the 1850s. The picture was taken between 1890 and 1900.

In 1901 the bridge was washed away in a flood. It was rebuilt and lasted until the flood of 1987 when it was destroyed again.

In 1950 the railroad tracks were taken out and a plank surface was put in so people could walk on it. When railroad tracks were taken off there was a big hole along the edge and people could not walk on it until it was rebuilt, in 1989, to then be just a walking bridge. After rebuilding they renamed it the Bloomfield Bridge.
