"Houlton's Center for summer sports... swimming, boating and dancing. It was owned and operated for many years by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stephenson, who purchased boats and equipment from Nelson Herrin, who opened the first site on Nickerson Lake about 1 mile West of here. This site was then called Crescent Park." (Comment written in the Berry scrapbook.)

The concession stand sold cigars, nuts, fruits and confections. In the background is the excursion steam boat, “Mable.” (see MMN #13603, 14622) “In 1893, Mr. Nelson Herrin... purchased a small steamer (Mable) that formerly ran between Eastport and St. Andrews and had it conveyed to the lake, where it still runs for the convenience of excursion parties in the summer season."
