Albion Keith Parris (1788-1857) was born in Hebron and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1806.

Admitted to the bar in 1806, he settled in Paris Hill. In 1815 he won a seat in Congress, while Maine was still part of Massachusetts. He was a leader in the push for Maine statehood.

Parris served as governor of Maine from 1822 to 1827 when he was appointed a U.S. Senator. However, he resigned the following year to become associate justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine.

After returning he was elected Mayor of Portland in opposition to the Maine Liquor Law.

Albion Parris was also the first president of the Maine Historical Society from 1822 to 1823.
