Joseph F. Chaplin of South Portland poses at Albany Basin. He was an ice dealer with Clark and Chaplin Ice Co.

In Albany Township, south of Round Pound, powerful glacial drainage passed through a narrow bedrock gorge along Albany Brook and carved deep potholes. During the 1800s the gorge was a tourist attraction called Albany Basin.
