Image Info

Part of a cased liquor set that is traditionally believed to have belonged to 18th century York sea captain Daniel Lane, this decanter and stemmed glasses are delicately decorated with gilt highlights in the form of floral garlands, chains, and striping. Of clear colorless blown lead glass, they were probably imported for sale in the United States from Bavaria or Slovakia circa 1800. The cased liquor set was a gift to the Old Gaol Museum in York from a Lane descendant in 1919.
